ABOUT
THE GONG
This page gives information about Sheila's work with the Gong
- that powerful & magical instrument which has been in
use in the spiritual traditions of the East for several thousand
years. The Gong originated nearly six thousand years ago in
the land that is now Iraq, & continues to be used in the
Buddhist religious tradition. The Gong is an idiophone, i.e.
it resonates with the whole of its' being, producing many
harmonics from it's fundamental tuned note. When played it
produces the primordial & original sound "Om", which is
an extremely powerful & healing sound to the human
ear.
WHY
"GONG BATH"?
When the Gong is played well it bathes the human body in sound
- this is why we use the term "Gong bath" to describe this
type of therapy - the recipient is literally bathed in the
sounds of the Gong. There is no water involved &
no clothes are removed! It is like a very deep and lasting
massage with sound, tuning the physical body and soul to the
greatest possible resonance, while totally letting go. It
is usually experienced lying down on your back, receiving
the sound energy of the Gong as it is played moving through
the nervous system - opening, clearing and recharging the
whole mind, body and spirit. It triggers a meditative, contemplative
state in which we have the opportunity to relinquish control
of the mind. Negativity and chaos are suspended, irregularity
and resistance are cleared, and the whole being is reset to
a state of synchrony and alignment.
During a Gong bath the body takes in the sounds that it needs
for healing, & filters out what it does not need. The
usual result of a Gong bath is that the person being gonged
feels very calm, relaxed & de-stressed, & often goes
into a state of meditation automatically, where healing can
more readily occur. Some physical aches & pains might
have disappeared, or may lessen or vanish subsequently as
the sounds of the Gong continue to do their work long after
the Gong bath has finished. Like all forms of Sound Healing
it works on all levels - physical, mental, emotional &
spiritual. The Gong is thus a very powerful instrument
for healing.
GONG
EVENTS
The Gong can be used in many different settings & for
a variety of occasions - we have gonged at weddings, funerals,
christenings, birthday & other parties, in hospitals &
hospices, care homes, prisons, schools, for autistic children,
at spiritual ceremonies, for the inauguration of new buildings,
for meditation, to end workshops etc. In all these settings
the Gong takes its place & masterfully creates a rich
soundscape which has an enhancing & calming effect. We
also use old Himalayan Singing Bowls, conch shells & many
other related ancient & modern instruments during our
Gong presentations. Do enquire if you would like to book a

SHEILA'S
WORK WITH THE GONG
Sheila studied the Gong with world renowned Gongmaster Don
Conreaux (www.holistic-resonance.com),
with whom she continues to work. Sheila also works with
Aidan McIntyre, Don's musical assistant (www.gongmagic.com
)The Gongs they use are quite large & of very high quality.
Sheila believes she is one of only two people in the Brighton
area using this type of Gong in this way. Her current work
with the Gong includes Gong baths for groups (see below in
"News & Events"), Gong concerts, individual
Gong therapy sessions (£40 per session), & Gong
workshops (see below in "News & Events"). Sheila
is a tutor for the College of Sound Healing & teaches
the "Sound Healing with Gongs" additional module for
the College Sound Healing training. Her next workshops for
the College will be February 23rd 2008 in the Brighton area,
& May 10th 2008 in Wales. Sheila has been Chairperson
for the College for two years & recently stood down due
to pressure of other work.

New Gong CD available - during the early months of this year
we went into production with the new CD "Quantum Transformations"
- a Journey into Timelessness, which is a joint collaberation
between Sheila & Gong colleague Aidan McIntyre, &
was recorded in Newhaven during summer 2007. Twelve Gongs
are in use on this CD including the 60" Universal Gong.

Mind Body Spirit Festival.During May (21st to 26th) we were
again up in London for the annual Mind Body Spirit festival
at the Royal Horticultural Halls, Victoria. We were on Stand
1 - Way of the Gong, giving mini Gongbaths & selling Singing
bowls, CD's, & giving out information about our work with
the Gong. The show went very well, with lots of information
given out about our events & much interest in our work.
It was a very successful week!

Earlier this year 2008 Sheila & other Gongmaster colleagues
travelled on an extensive six-week International Gongmaster
Performance tour to a number of different countries, giving
performances, workshops, talks, gongbaths & private sessions.
Grand Gongmaster Don Conreaux lead the group of Gongmasters
which also included Aidan McIntyre & Tomek Czartoryski
from Poland. The tour included performances at Auroville in
India; Hong Kong; Perth & Sydney in Australia, & Nelson,
New Zealand. It was a privilege to take the Gong & Sound
Healing to new places & people. The first leg of this
tour started on March 4th in India, & ended in the Cook
Islands in mid-April & was highly successful. Visits to
Argentina, Brazil, Tokyo, Shanghai, & Dubai are planned
for later in the year, & the Gongmasters will be returning
to Hong Kong & New Zealand in February 2009.

OF SOUND HEALING in the BRIGHTON area will be on SATURDAY

This is a multi-level workshop especially suitable for those
with some knowledge of Sound Healing, but no prior experience
of Gongs is necessary. It is open to non-College members.
